Pünktlich um 6 Uhr haben wir in Port Moresby, Papua-Neuguinea, angelegt. 7029 Seemeilen haben wir jetzt seit Hongkong zurückgelegt.

Heute ist Valentinstag und das Schiff ist „herzlich“ geschmückt.

Täglich bekommt man Informationen über den nächsten Tag auf die Kabine gelegt. Für Port Moresby wird nahegelegt, keine Uhren, Schmuck, Handys und Kameras mit an Land zu nehmen, da hier die Kriminalitätsrate sehr hoch ist. Dies gilt aber nur für die Passagiere, die auf eigene Faust an Land gehen.

Wir haben einen Ausflug gebucht zum Dorf Saroa, in dem Angehörige der Motu leben, eines der wichtigsten indigenen Völker von PNG. Zirka 100 Leute haben diesen Ausflug gebucht und wir sind mit 7 kleinen Bussen auf die 2stündige Fahrt ins Innere von PNG gestartet.Wahrscheinlich sind mehr Besucher als Einwohner dann in dem Dorf.

Spannend die Anreise. In Port Moresby über einen beleuchteten Highway, vorbei an einer Bierbrauerei gegenüber von einer Coca Cola Abfüllanlage, vorbei an Slums mit Menschen, die trotz ihrer Armut sehr, sehr freundlich sind.

Überhaupt, wann immer wir im Landesinneren an Menschen vorbeikamen oder von LKW-ähnlichen Bussen überholt wurden, haben die Menschen uns zugewinkt. Lediglich 70.000 Touristen kommen im Jahr nach PNG und wir sind mit etwa 1.000 Personen schon eine Attraktion.

Im Dorf selbst wurden wir freundlich begrüßt. 2 Tanzgruppen waren da und es wurde wieder fleissig sich gegenseitig fotografiert. Wie gesagt, die Weissen sind ebenfalls eine Attraktion.

Wir sind etwa 1 Stunde im Dorf geblieben und dann wieder über die Ruckelstrecke zurückgefahren. Vor dem Schiff waren Souvenirstände aufgebaut und eine weitere Tanzgruppe hat ihre Kriegstänze gezeigt.

Die 33 Grad und die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit haben ihren Tribut gezollt. Nur noch eins: Duschen und ein kaltes Getränk.

Heute hatten wir auch die Gelegenheit, die Brücke kurz zu besichtigen.

Der Abend wurde wieder durch einen tollen Sonnenuntergang abgeschlossen.

Morgen ist wieder ein Seetag und dann haben wir unser erstes Ziel in Australien vor uns: Cairns und das Great Barrier Reef.

Exactly at 6am we arrived at Port Moresby, PNG. The distance from Hongkong so far has been 7029 sm.

Today is Valentines Day and the ship has been decorated with hearts and lots of balloons.

The information for today included some warnings for people who want to discover Port Moresby on their own. They should not wear watches, jewelry, cameras, mobile phones and should only go in groups. Port Moresby has a very high criminal rate.

This did not apply to us because we have been on an organized excursion to a little village with the name of Saroa in the inland.

The drive to Saroa is about 2 hours and one one leaves Port Moresby the roads are sometimes in extremely bad shapes. Approximately 100 passengers are on the excursion. Whenever we met people selling fruits, petrol, diesel on the roadside we have been greeted. Probably the white passengers have been a real attraction in PNG.

The village Saroa greeted us with dancing groups and a warm welcome. It was interesting to see how the people live. They are all very friendly and they have been making as many photos from us as we have made from them.

Around 3 pm we were back on the ship and our deck had the chance to visit the bridge.

Tomorrow is another sea day and the we'll arrive at our first Australian destination: Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.
