Pünktlich um 7 Uhr
sind wir in Ternate angekommen, der winzigen runden Insel der
Molukken mit ihrem Vulkan Gamalama, der 2012 zuletzt ausgebrochen
ist.
Die Molukken sind
für ihre Gewürze bekannt, insbesondere Muskat und Nelken.
Der Gouverneur der
Insel war an der Pier und hat den Kapitän mit nahezu militärischen
Ehren empfangen. Ganz großer Bahnhof für diese liebliche Insel. Es
war die erste Anreise der Grand Lady in Ternate.

Es waren heute keine
Ausflüge geplant, deshalb ging es auf eigene Faust an Land. Bereits
an der Pier wurden wir von einer Band begrüßt, die Rock und Soul
vom allerfeinsten spielten.
Ternate selbst war
ein Erlebnis. Etwa 30 Grad und über 90% Luftfeuchtigkeit mit
regelmässigen tropischen Schauern machten den Spaziergang in die
Stadt für einen etwas übergewichtigen Europäer zu einem Erlebnis
der besonderen Art.
Auffallend der
heftige Verkehr mit tausenden von Mopeds. Auffallend auch die extrem
freundliche Bevölkerung, die überwiegend aus Muslimen besteht.
Indonesien ist das größte muslimische Land der Welt.

An jeder Ecke
warteten Einheimische um ein Selfie mit den bleichen Langnasen zu
machen, die mit dem großen Schiff angekommen sind. Es war ein Geben
und Nehmen. Wir machten Fotos von den Einheimischen und sie knipsten
uns. Circa 5 Kreuzfahrtschiffe pro Jahr legen hier nur an.
Wir sind an der
großen Moschee vorbei bis zum Gewürz- und Gemüsemarkt gegangen.
Die Größe des Marktes sprengt unsere Vorstellungskraft. Überwiegend
sind es Frauen, die ihre Waren anbieten. Ständig hört man ein
„Hello“ und „Smile, smile“.

Ca. 3 Stunden sind
wir durch Ternate gelaufen. Ich war bis auf die Haut durchgeschwitzt.
Aber wir haben genug Hemden und Shorts mit. Aber es war ein
unvergessliches Erlebnis.
Heute hatten wir am
Nachmittag wieder mehrere kräftige Schauern. Beim BINGO habe ich nur
13 EUR gewonnen.
Morgen geht es nach
AMBON einer weiteren Molukken Insel.

At 7 am
we moored at the port of Ternate. The Governor was here to greet our
captain with military honors. It was the first time that the Grand
Lady is in Ternate.
No
excursions were planned today so we could visit the town an explore
it by ourselves. At the pier a rock band was playing with absolutely
professional sound and qualitiy. They played here for 8 hours, for
the entire stay of our ship.
Ternate
greeted us with 30 degrees Centigrade and more than 90% humidity. I
really enjoyed this and after half of a kilometer walk I was sweating
like hell :-)
The
traffic was fascinating. It was loud and thousands of little
motorbikes were part of the chaos.
Especially
remarkable was the friendliness of the local people which are mostly
muslims. Nearly every few meters men, women with or without their
kids were asking for a selfie with us. They obviously were excited to
see this whole bunch of strange looking Europeans. So it was a
win-win situation: they got their photo and we got ours.
During
our 3 hour walk we passed the Grand Mosque and a vegetable and herb
market. I have never seen a market for greens of that size. Mostly
women were selling their goods and one could hear their “Hello”
and “Smile, smile”.
This
visit in a totally strange culture was an amazing experience for me.
What
else happened? Well, we had some more heavy rain showers. Today I won
only 13 Euros at the BINGO game.
Tomorrow
afternoon we'll be in AMBON another Moluk island.
