Das Blog heute: kurz und schmerzlos.

Fast den ganzen Tag am Flughafen rumgehangen. Um 6 Uhr raus, um 7.30 in Canberra am Flughafen. Virgin Australia VA 641 nach Sydney.

Dort 3 Stunden Aufenthalt und dann mit VA nach Cairns wo wir gegen 17 Uhr Ortszeit angekommen sind. Die Uhr musste wieder um eine Stunde zurückgestellt werden, da Queensland den Unsinn mit Sommer- und Winterzeit schon seit Jahren nicht mehr mitmacht.

Ich habe wieder ein Zimmer im Pacific an der Esplanade gebucht, wie vor 3,5 Jahren. Diesmal ist es das Zimmer 801. Eine kleine Suite mit einem das Zimmer umgehenden Balkon. Einfach ein Traum.

Wieder eine tolle Erfahrung mit Booking.com, wo ich alle unsere Hotelzimmer buche und bisher nur beste Erfahrungen gemacht habe. Auch das Boutique Hotel in Sydney hatte eine äusserst günstige Lage. Das ich nur sehr schwer mit Wärme umgehen kann, ist nicht die Schuld des schönen, alten Hotels.

Da ein typisches australisches Frühstück hier im Hotel pro Person 34 AUD kostet, sind wir heute im Supermarkt einkaufen gegangen. Unser Zimmer hat eine Küche und einen geräumigen Kühlschrank. Frühstück auf dem Balkon, auch nicht schlecht.

Nach einem Abendessen und einem kurzen Spaziergang durch den Park mit seinen illuminierten Bäumen lassen wir den Tag ausklingen.

Down Under – Cairns – Wednesday, February 28, 2018

Cairns, Queensland (QLD) Time: 9:35 pm, Weather: Humid, 28 degrees Centigrade

Nothing spectacular happened today because we spent most of the day in airports.

We got up at 6 and took a taxi to Canberra airport where we bought breakfast and took the Virgin Australia plane to Sydney. Short ride of 45 minutes. In Sydney we had a stopover of 3 hours and took another VA to Cairns where we arrived around 5pm local time. We had to set the clock back one hour because QLD does not use the summer- and winter-time.

I again booked us into the Pacific where we already stayed 3.5 years ago. This time the room is 801 a little Suite with living room, kitchen, bath and a balcony that surrounds the room. From here we have a fantastic view over Cairns. I am a true fan of booking.com. All our hotel reservations are made from this website and we always have been very happy. Also the Boutique Hotel in Sydney was very extravagant as far as location was concerned, the nicely fitted old rooms. The fact the I have problem with heat is not a fault of the hotel.

Because a typical Australian breakfast costs 34 AUD per person we did some food shopping in a nearby supermarket and filled the fridge in our room.

After dinner we did a short walk in the park and looked at the illuminated trees.

Now we call it a day.

Heute morgen um 11 Uhr hatten wir einen Termin beim Department of Immigration and Border Control einer Abteilung des Department of Home Affairs. Das Department setzt unsere tcVISION Lösung mit Erfolg ein in einer ADABAS/NATURAL – DB2 LUW und Teradata Umgebung.

Man gab mir die Gelegenheit meine Firma  und Neuerungen in der aktuellen Version von tcVISION als auch geplante Weiterentwicklungen vorzustellen.

Das Gespräch verlief in einer sehr angenehmen und entspannten Atmosphäre. Das Department of Immigration and Border Control ist ein sehr selbständiger Kunde, der kaum auf unseren Support zurückgreift.

In der Zwischenzeit hat Gila die Postpakete mit Klamotten vollgemacht, so dass wir insgesamt 15 kg gen Germany geschickt haben. Kosten: 160 AUD, Transportzeit 6 Wochen. Bei einer Zustellung innerhalb von 6 Tagen hätten sich die Kosten auf knapp 400 AUD belaufen!!!!!!

Australien ist kein billiges Land. Eine kleine Packung Marlboro kosten 25 AUD, eine 0,3l Flasche Victorian Bitter 8 AUD (in unserem Hotel).

Heute abend treffen wir uns mit Karl, Max und Tanja zum Abendessen und morgen früh um 7 Uhr verlassen wir das Hotel und fahren zum Flughafen. Kurs: Sydney und Cairns

Down Under – Canberra – Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Today we had an appointment at the Department of Immigration and Border Control a division of the Department of Home Affairs. The department successfully uses our tcVISION solution within a ADABAS/NATURAL – DB2 LUW and Teradata environment.

I had the opportunity to introduce them to my company B.O.S. and present our software solutions to them. I also presented new implementations into tcVISION Version 7 and introduced them to V7.

The meeting took place in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The department is a very independent user of our software, which means they rarely have been in touch with our support organization.

In the meantime Gila has spent her time packing the 2 boxes with clothes and we have been avle to send 15kg of clothes to Germany. At the expense of 160 AUD, delivery time: 6+ weeks. A faster delivery of 6 days would have cost around 400 AUD!!!!

Australia is not an inexpensive country. Whenever Gila buys a pack of Marlboro it coats 25 AUD and a 0,3l bottle of Victoria Bitter is 8 AUD in our hotel. Street prices are a bit lower, but not much.

Tonight we have dinner with Karl, Max and Tanja and tomorrow morning at 7 am we'll take a taxi to the airport. Destination: Cairns via Sydney.

Down Under – Canberra – Montag, 26. Februar 2018

Um Punkt 11 Uhr heute morgen wurden wir von Max Kiermaier abgeholt, einem ehemaligen Mitarbeiter des Parlamentes von ACT und nun Ruheständler seit 3 Wochen. Max ist der Schwager des Geschäftsführers unseres australischen Partners CCA Software.

Unser Wunsch war es auf den Telstar Tower zu gehen. Dort hat man einen wunderschönen Überblick über das Stadtgebiet von Canberra.

Nachdem wir Tanja, die Frau von Max abgeholt haben, sind wir zu einem Picknick in ein das Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve (https://www.tidbinbilla.act.gov.au/) gefahren. Hier gab es dann die erhofften Treffen mit den eigentlichen australischen Einheimischen: Kanguruh, Koala, Black Cocatoo, Magpies.

Ein Teil des Reserve ist der Eukalyptus Forrest. Hier gibt es ca. 20 Koalas, die allerdings kaum wahrzunehmen sind, weil das Gelände zu gross ist. Deshalb sind die 4 am Eingang das beliebte Empfangskomitee. Die Kleinen sind einfach nur süss. Ich bin mir sicher, es waren nicht die letzten, die wir gesehen haben.

Auf einer Lichtung haben wir ein Picknick gemacht und es dauerte nicht lange, dann war der erste Besucher da. Nach und nach trauten sich immer mehr aus dem Wald, allerdings in einigem Abstand.

Für Gila und für mich ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Wann hat man schon die Gelegenheit, in unmittelbarer Nähe von frei lebenden Känguruhs zu essen.

Der Nachmittag wurde dann abgeschlossen mit einem Besuch im australischen Parlament. Nach einem akribischen Security Check durften wir auf die Besuchertribüne und haben kurz einer Budgetdebatte zugehört. Wie auch im Bundestag, bei einem solch langweiligen Thema waren nur ein paar Abgeordnete zugegen.

Das Parlament ist ein beeindruckendes Gebäude. Bekannt sind insbesondere die grosse Marmortreppe, die Great Hall und natürlich das Unter- sowie das Oberhaus.

Morgen ist wieder ein Besuch bei einem unserer Kunden von B.O.S. angesagt und wir müssen einen Teil unserer Klamotten per Post auf die Reise nach Hause schicken, weil das Gepäck einfach zu schwer ist!!!!!!!!!

Down Under – Canberra – Monday, February 26, 2018

At 11 am we were picked up at the hotel from Max Kiemaier. Max is the brother in-law from the Manager of CCA Software, our Australian representative. Max retired about 3 weeks ago and used to be working at the ACT parliament.

We anted to go to the Telstar Tower to have a great overview over the beautiful landscape of Canberra ACT. Canberra with its government organizations is not a tourist place but it is a beautiful city within a great and wide landscape. I love it very much!

Next we picked up Tanja, Max's wife and drove to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve (https://www.tidbinbilla.act.gov.au/) to have a picnic. Here we had the so much hoped for meeting with the “true” natives of Australia: Kangaroos, Koalas, Black Cockatoos, Magpies.

A part of the Reserve is the Eucalyptus Forrest. Approx. 20 Kalas live here which were nearly invisible. At the entry to the forrest was a welcome committee of 4 Koalas. They are really sweet chaps. I am quite positive that we'll see more during the coming weeks.

Nearly everywhere in the forrest we could see the little Kangaroos, the Wallabies.

On a clearing we stopped for the picnic and it didn't take long until the first Kangaroo came to meet with us. A few minute slater a whole flock came out of the wood but stayed away from us – but not for my camera lens.

For Gila and for me this was a one-time experience. We never had a picnic with a Kangaroo grazing next to us.

We finished the afternoon with a visit to the Parliament House. After an intense security check we were allowed to enter the parliament where currently a budget discussion was going on. Like in Germany, for such boring subjects only a hand-full of parliament members were attending.

The parliament is a very impressive building. Icons of the building are the famous marble stairs, the Great Hall and the parliament and the senate hall.

Tomorrow I have another visit scheduled to a customer of B.O.S. and Gila will send a couple of boxes to Germany with some of our clothes. Too much stuff, too heavy a weight, too difficult to carry.
