Skytrain – Heritage Market – Skyrail – Crocodiles

Um 7 Uhr heute morgen wurden von Horizon Tours abgeholt. Frühstück auf dem Hotelzimmer. Sandwiches von Woolworth und Kaffee, frisch von Gila und Nescafe gebraut.

Nachdem andere Gäste von verschiedenen der 460 Hotels in Cairns aufgesammelt waren ging es zur Freshwater Station und von dort mit der Kuranda Scenic Railway hinauf nach Kuranda. Die Eisenbahnlinie ist 37 km lang und wurde 1891 nach 9 Jahren Bauzeit fertiggestellt. Sie bewältigt 328 Höhenmeter und führt durch 15 Tunnel und über 37 Brücken.

In Kuranda hatten wir eine Stunde Aufenthalt, zu kurz, um neben den Touristenshops auch den alten Teil dieser kleinen Stadt zu erkunden.

Der nächste Höhepunkt war die Fahrt mit der längsten Seilbahn der Welt, dem 7,5 km langen SkyrailRainforest Cableway mit einem Stopp am Wasserfall Barron Falls und Red Peak, einem Boardwalk durch den Regenwald von Queensland. Eine beeindruckende Fahrt über den Regenwald, der 40 Minuten dauerte.

Den Nachmittag haben wir bei HartleysCrocodile Adventure verbracht, einem Wildlife Park mit unzähligen Salz- und Süsswasser Krokodilen, Koalas, Känguruhs, und den aus der Dinosaurierzeit überlebenden Cassowaries. Die Crocodile Farm von Hartleys ist eine der grössten Australiens mit 6000 Krokodilen. Eine tolle Anlage in der die Krokodile enorme Freiflächen haben. Die Fahrt mit einem Boot über einen See, der 26 Krokodile beheimatete und eine Crocodile Attack Show waren die Höhepunkte.

Am frühen Abend waren wir wieder zurück, etwas erschöpft von dem langen Tag. Gila ist noch einkaufen gegangen und hat unsere Reisekasse wieder aufgefüllt während ich die heutigen Bilder und Filme auf den Laptop geladen habe und dieses Blog schreibe.

At 7 am Horizon Tours picked us up at the hotel. Breakfast was at the hotel room. Sandwiches from Woolworth and Coffee, freshly brewed by Gila and Nescafe.

We stopped at some of 460 hotels of Cairns to pick up other passengers for the tour. From Freshwater Station we took the Kuranda Scenic Railway up to Kuranda. The railway track is 37 km long and was opened in 1891 after 9 years of construction. The railway track is 37 km long and snakes its way to Kuranda, mastering 328 meters upon sea level, 15 tunnels and 37 bridges.

We had a 1 hour stay in Kuranda. Too short to see something other than the hundreds of tourist shops.

The next highlight was the drive with the longest cableway of the world, the 7,5 km long Skyrail Rainforest Cableway with a stop at Barron Falls and Red Peak, a boardwalk through the rainforest of Queensland. An impressive journey over the canopy of the rainforest which took about 40 minutes..

The afternoon we spent at Hartleys Crocodile Adventure a wildlife park with lots of salt- and freshwater Crocodiles, Koalas, Kangaroos and Cassowaries, birds survived from the dinosaur era. Hartley Farm is also one of the largest crocodile farms in Australia, home of 6000 crocs. An impressive park where the crocodiles habitat is a real large area. A boat ride on the lagoon with 26 crocs and the Crocodile Attack Show were the highlights.

We were back early evening, a bit exhausted I must say from the long and adventurous day. Gila did some shopping and has refilled our traveling purse whilst I had to offload the movies and pictures to my laptop and started to write this blog.
