Canberra Tag 1.

Die nächsten 6 Tage übernachten wir im Haus von Ewalds Bruder Horst und seiner Frau Mary. Penny – the farmdog – hat eine Freundin hier: Tuppence – the citydog.

Horst hat heute eine Tour mit uns in der Umgebung Canberras gemacht. Ein grosser Teil der Statdtteile von Canberra sind eigene Communities, die teilweise erst vor einigen Jahren angelegt wurden. Entsprechend neu und grosszügig ist alles. Canberra ist die achtgrösste Stadt Australiens. Details findet man hier: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra.

Die Tour führte uns durch das Gebiet welches im Jahr 2003 durch ein großes Buschfeuer sehr verwüstet wurde. Mehrere Personen und ca. 500 Häuser wurden zerstört. Auch das Mount-Stromlo-Observatorium ging in den Flammen unter. 2004 begann der Wiederaufbau. Heute ist von dem Brand nur ein zerstörtes Gebäude zu sehen. Auf dem Gelände des Observatoriums ruhte sich eine kleine Herde Känguruhs aus. Sie hatten keinerlei Scheu und man konnte nahe an sie herangehen.

Der nächste Stopp war auf dem Black Mountain mit dem 195 Meter hohen Fernmeldeturm Black Mountain Tower (ehemals Telstra Tower und davor Telecom Tower). Von hier hat man einen weiten Ausblick über das gesamte Gelände der Hauptstadt.

Ein weiterer Aussichtspunkt ist Mount Ainslie, den wir am Nachmittag besucht haben.

Canberra Day 1.

For the nnext 6 days we stay at the house of Ernie's brother Horst and his wife Mary. Penny – the farmdog – has a friend here: Twopence – the citydog.

Horst took us for a tour through the neighborhoods of Canberra. A large part of Canberra are individual communities which have been built only a few years ago. Canberra is the 8^th largest city in Australia. Details are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra.

The tour led us through an area which was totally destroyed by a bush fire in 2003. 4 people died and more than 500 houses and the major research telescopes of Australian National University's Mount Stromlo Observatory were destroyed. 2004 the rebuild started. Today only one burned down building is still there. A flock of Kangaroos rested at the area of the observatory. They were used to visitirs and I could make a few nice photos of them.

The next stop was Black Mountain with the 195 meter high Black Mountain Tower. We had a great view over the entire Capital area.

Another stop at the the afternoon was Mount Ainslie with great views and bird life.
