Secrets by the Lake – Merry Christmas

Ich hoffe es wird dem Leser dieses Blogs nicht langweilig, wenn ich immer wieder auf die Kookaburras zurückkomme. Ich bin einfach total begeistert von diesen drolligen Vögeln. Auch heute morgen waren wieder 8 da und haben darauf gewartet, gefüttert zu werden.

Heute wieder schönes Wetter, allerdings etwas diesig über dem Pazifik. Trotzdem wieder 29 Grad.

Heute sind wir in der Nähe von Montville geblieben und haben ein Weingut besucht und eine Weinprobe gemacht. Ein Weingut, auf dem Hühner zwischen den Weinreben laufen, um Schädlinge zu picken. Wir haben einigen Flaschen Shiraz gekauft. Den werden wir noch zum Dinner gebrauchen können.

Lunch hatten wir am Lake Baroon. Dort gibt es das Hotel Secrets by the Lake mit sechs Baumhäusern, die vermietet werden.

Auf dem Rückweg haben wir in Montville angehalten und den Christmas Shop besucht. Weihnachten im Hochsommer! Bunt und einzigartig.

In der Nähe gab es ein Cafe in dem holländische Poffertjes angeboten wurden. Dies ist Gilas Liebelingsgebäck. Kein Urlaub in Zoutelande ohne Poffertjes. Die australiasche Variante war nahezu identisch. Poffertjes mit Puderzucker und Vanilleeis.

Ein ruhiger Tag geht zu Ende. Die Zikaden machen wieder ihren Lärm und die Vögel waren auch wieder da und haben sich für heute verabschiedet.

I hope the blog is not too boring when I always talk about the Kookaburras. I have become a real fan of these lovely birds which are real characters. This morning 8 Kookas were waiting for food.

The weather is great again. Sunny with some mist over the Pacific Ocean. 29 degrees Centigrade. A nice and warm summer day.

Today we stayed in the Montville area. We first visited a Winery and tasted some of the wines. A winery where chooks are on the vineyards looking for pest. We bought some bottles of Shiraz. Enough to provide us with wine for the upcoming dinners.

We had lunch at Lake Baroon. We stayed at Secrets by the Lake a hotel and restaurant. 6 treehouse can be rent close by the lake in the middle of the rainforest.

On air way home we stopped in Montville and visited the Christmas Shop. Christmas in summer. Very colorful and unique.

Next to the Christmas Shop we found a cafe offering Dutch Poffertjes. These are Gila most favorite cookies. No holiday in Zouteland (Netherlands) without Poffertjes. Tje Australian version was nearly identical. Poffertjes with powder sugar and vanilla ice.

A relaxing day comes to an end. The Cicada choir has already started the all evening concert and the birds have been here to say Bye Bye for today-

Whale Watching but No Whales

Frühstück 5.30 Uhr kurz nach dem phantastischen Sonnenaufgang. 

Abfahrt zum Hafen von Mooloolaba um kurz vor 7. Heute sollte eine Walbeobachtung anstehen auf dem Motorschiff WHALE ONE. Wir wussten, dass die Saison für das Whale Watching fast zu Ende ist, trotzdem waren wir optimistisch, einige Buckelwale zu sehen. Auf der gestrigen Tour war dies jedenfalls so. Pünktlich um 8.30 Uhr war LEINEN LOS und die Whale One fuhr über den Mooloolah River auf den Pazifik. Obwohl kaum Wind war, waren die Wellen teilweise 3 Meter hoch und das kleine Schiff wurde kräftig durchgeschüttelt. Wir sassen auf dem Bugdeck, Gila hat dafür gesorgt, dass Sonnenschutz aufgetragen war. Nur Ewald, der Naturbursche, hatte seinen Arbeitshut auf und kam ohne weiteren Schutz aus. 50 Jahre Australien haben ihn abgehärtet!

Es war eine phantastische 4 Stunden Fahrt nach Noosa Heads und die Küste entlang wieder zurück.

Alles toll, gutes Wetter – nur keine Wale. Nature has its own rules!

Die Bilder vom Schiff geben zumindest einen Eindruck was wir erlebt haben könnten.

Zurück in Montville war wenigstens ein kleiner süsser Frosch vor der Linse. Danke an Henry für das Bild.

Breakfast at 5.30 pm right after the fantastic sun rise. We left for Mooloolaba harbor short before 7 pm. The plan for today was Whale Watching with vessel WHALE ONE. Although the season for whale watching is nearly over we were optimistic because yesterday there have been whale sightings. The ship left the harbor at 8.30 and we headed towards the Pacific Ocean on the Moololah River. There was no wind but the Pacific waves were up to 3 meters high, hence a bumpy ride and the ship was rolling. We sat at the front deck and Gila took care that we put sun protection on. Only Ernie, the nature boy, didn't need anything, just his working hat. 50 years living under the Australian sun, NO WORRIES.

It has been a great 4 hour drive, lots of sun, good weather – but no whales!

Heute ging es nach Mooloolaba. Die Crew ging den wöchentlichen Einkauf machen und ich habe die Mooloolaba Underworld besucht, eine Unterwasserlandschaft mit Haien und vielen anderen interessanten Fischen aus Australien.

Im Hafen von Mooloolaba konnten man auch noch andere interessante Touren buchen. Für Morgen steht eine solche Tour an. Heute wird noch nichts verraten.

Nach dem Gewitter und dem Regen gestern Abend war es heute entsprechend schwül bei 28 Grad. Heute morgen waren es bereits 7 Kookaburras die sich auf der Terrasse eingefunden hatten und auf meine Fütterung warteten.

In genau 2 Wochen sind wir wieder zu Hause und so langsam geht die schöne Zeit hier zu Ende. Mal sehen, was noch so alles auf uns wartet.

Today we have been in Mooloolaba. The Crew did the weekly shopping for food and I visited the Mooloolaba Underworld, which is a Aquarium specialized in Sharks and other sea species from Australia.

Additional tours could be booked at the harbor of Mooloolaba. We booked one for tomorrow. Read tomorrows blog for details.

After the thundersorm and the rain we had last night today it was kind of humid and 28 degrees Centigrade.

This morgen already 7 Kookaburras waited on the patio for my daily feeding.

In 2 weeks from today we'll be back home and the great time we had here slowly comes to an end. I'm curious to see what adventures are still ahead of us.

Sunshine Coast Road – 37 degrees and Lightning

Der Tag fing an wie jeder andere bisher. Die Kookaburras warteten bereits kurz vor 6 Uhr auf uns.

Nach dem Frühstück war die Temperatur bereits bei 29 Grad. Gott sei Dank hat der Ford Falcon eine exzellente Klimaanlage. Die Fahrt ging über die kurvenreiche Strasse herunter nach Palmwood, Richtung Maroochydore und dann die Sunshine Coast Road hoch bis Noosa Heads. Auf dem Weg dorthin haben wir an verschiedenen Stränden Halt gemacht. Es waren mittlerweile 37 Grad. Trotzdem waren die weiten Strände nur spärlich besucht von Badenden, Schnochlern und Surfern.

Auch wir hatten unsere Badesachen dabei. Allerdings liess uns das Programm, das wir uns vorgenommen hatten, keine Zeit für eine kleine Abkühlung.

In Noosa Heads ist die Hastings Street ein Muss für jeden der ab und an auch mal gerne Shoppen geht. Genau das Richtige für uns beide und Gila hat auch ein paar schöne Sommersachen gefunden, die wir leider in Deutschland erst mal über den Winter einmotten müssen.

Das Ende unserer kleinen Rundreise war ein Besuch in der Ingwer Fabrik (Ginger Factory) in Yandina. Hier war es gefühlt noch heisser, da die Meeresbrise fehlte. Trotzdem hat das Eis und das Ginger Beer gut geschmeckt.

Heute Abend gab es endlich das ersehnte Gewitter. Wieder ein Erlebnis, wenn man die Blitze über dem Pazifik sehen kann.

The day started like any other before. The Kookaburras were already waiting for us before 6 pm.

After the breakfast the temperature already was around 29 degrees Centigrade. Thanks God the Ford Falcon has an excellent AC. Our ride brought us downhill to Palmwood and Maroochydore to the Sunshine Coast Road to Noosa Heads. On our way we stopped at a couple of beaches. In the meantime the temperature had hit 37 degrees, however not that many people were on the beaches. Just the ordinary swimmers, snorkelers and surfers.

We als carried our bathing clothes. But our program was too dense so we didn't have time to take the refreshing bath. Maybe another time.

A MUST SEE in Noosa Heads is Hastings Street. Because Gila and I like to shop we used the time not only for window shopping but Gila bought some nice summer clothes that certainly will be put away until next summer when back in Germany.

The final destination of our tour was the Ginger Factory in Yandina. Because this is inland it even was hotter here because the ocean breeze was missing. Nevertheless the ice cream was good and I enjoyed a sweet Ginger Beer.

This evening we finally had the long expected thunderstorm. What a great moment to see the lightning over the ocean.
