Cairns- Queensland (QLD) Zeit: 21:15, Wetter: 27 Grad, 85% Luftfeuchtigkeit

In der Nacht hatten wir schwere Gewitter und sintflutartigen Regen. Als wir heute morgen aufgestanden sind, hat Cairns gedampft, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes.

Es wurde dann aber ein sehr schöner Tag mit Sonnenschein und NUR 85% Luftfeuchtigkeit.

Von Freitag bis Sonntag ist immer Rusty's Market. Vor 30 Jahren wurde de Markt von Emrys ‘Rusty’ Rees ins Leben gerufen, in dem er Farmer von den Tablelands und dem Regenwald sowie dort lebende indigene Völker zu einem Markttreffen in Cairns zusammengerufen hat. Dort konnten sie ihre lokale Produkte verkaufen. Aus der Idee ist mittlerweile eine Institution geworden. Einfach toll so ein Markt. Ich war begeistert, was man auch an der Vielzahl der Bilder sieht.

Nach dem Marktbesuch kam wieder der Absacker an der Bucht und wir haben den Auslauf der Seabourne Encore beobachtet.

Wir haben uns nach der Krankheit von Gila mittags eine Auszeit verordnet, die wir auch konsequent einhalten. Obwohl ich eigentlich immer der Unruhegeist bin, halte ich mich auch daran und es tut mir gut!

Am späten Nachmittag haben wir die Fahrt zum Green Island gebucht für den nächsten Mittwoch. Beim anschliessenden Stop an Gilas Bank gab es eine ungewollte Überraschung. Jede Menge Mäuse an der Stelle. Wie in Down Under üblich, sind die Nager hier etwa doppelt so groß wie bei uns. Das war es dann mit Gila Bank und wir haben uns einen neuen Platz im Park gesucht, den wir aber vorher gründlich untersucht haben :-)

Zum Abendessen gab es Chicken Wings und Ceasar Salad. Wird Zeit die Pfunde vom Schiff wieder runter zu bekommen.

Noch ein Wort zu dem Schauspiel der Flughunde, das heute Abend besonders intensiv war. Es handelt sich hierbei SPECTACLED FLYING-FOXES, die mitten in der Stadt, im Central Business District ihre Schlafbäume haben. Unser Abendspaziergang hat uns zu ihren Schlafplätzen geführt und es waren immer noch viele da.

Nach einem leckeren Franziskaner Weizen im Bavarian Beerhouse 

sind wir noch durch den Night Market geschlendert und haben uns die vielen Touristenshops und chinesischen Massagesalons angeschaut.

Wieder im Hotel geniesst Gila die warme Nacht mit dem Vollmond auf dem Balkon und ich schreibe mein Blog.

Down Under – Cairns – Friday, March 02, 2018

Cairns, Queensland (QLD) Time: 9:15 pm, Weather: 27 degrees Centigrade, 85 % Humidity

We had some heavy thunderstorms at night and torrential rain. When we got up this morning Cains was steaming.

After breakfast however it became a very nice and sunny day with ONLY 85% humidity.

Every Friday through Sunday Rusty's Market is in Cairns. 30 years ago Emrys ‘Rusty’ Rees started the market when he asked farmers from the tablelands and indigenous people to sell their products in Cairns. The idea has become an institution in the meantime. The market is a real experience. Really awesome as you can see from the number of pictures in this blog.

After the market visit we had our one for the road at the bay and watched how the cruise ship Seaboune Encore left the port.

After Gila's sickness we decided that we would take an time-out every day which we have consequently done so far. Although I am normally the restless person, I accept the time-out and I feel that it is good for me.

Late afternoon we went to the Reef Terminal and booked the excursion to Green Island for next Wednesday. When we stopped at Gila's bank in the park opposite to our hotel we had to face a surprise: lots of mice. As usual in Australia the mice had a triple size of the German ones. We found another bank in the park (after thoroughly investigating the surrounding area) :-)

One additional word to the daily spectacle of the bat foxes. These are a species called the SPECTACLED FLYING-FOXES. Their roost trees are in the middle of Cairns ind the Cairns Business District.

Our nightly walk has led us to their roost trees and there were still a lot of them there.

When you know that there is a place that serves original Franziskaner Weizen Beer and the place is called Bavarian Beerhouse you'll stop by and have a beer.

Next to the Beerhouse is the Cairns Night Market which has a large Asian food court, Chinese massage saloons and lots of tourist stuff on sale.

Back in the hotel Gila sits on the balcony and enjoys the warm night with a full moon while I write this blog.
