Die Zeit auf der Insel geht so schnell vorbei. Heute ist schon Dienstag und Donnerstag geht es wieder nach Hause. Ich habe großes Glück mit dem Wetter. Blauer Himmel und Sonnenschein. Vorgestern ab Mittag und gestern den ganzen Tag. Mein Freund Bernd, der hier auf der Insel lebt, ist ein grandioser Fremdenführer und Gesprächspartner (bei dem täglichen Eis essen im Gran Cafe und dem gemeinsamen Abendessen).
Norderney ist in dieser Zeit des Jahres noch nicht sehr stark von Touristen besucht. Man findet durchaus noch ruhige Plätze und die vielen, fast zahmen Kaninchen, die die Insel bevölkern. Dies ist besonders auffällig inmitten der Stadt auf einem brachliegenden Gelände in der Nähe des Kurhauses. Die Spuren der wilden Kaninchen sind auf der ganzen Insel zu sehen.

Wir haben den Hafen besucht mit den beiden Seenot Rettungskreuzern, die dort liegen. Etwas entfernt vom Hafen das Gebiet, in dem im Sommer die Surfschule zu finden ist. Jetzt im Winter ist das flache Wasser ein Ort von gefiederten Bewohnern.
Gestern haben wir eine Inselrundfahrt gemacht, die uns in den Westen der Insel bis zum Ende der Ausbaustrecke gebracht hat. Zu fuss sind es vom Parkplatz noch ca. 5 km bis zum Inselende. Ein wunderschöne Dünenlandschaft erwartet den Besucher hier, mit kleinen Prielen.
Da es Nachmittag war, waren die Lichtverhältnisse besonders gut. Bernd ist ein leidenschaftlicher Fotograf und hatte genügend Gelegenheiten, seinem Hobby nachzugehen.

Zur Sicherung und Befestigung des Strandes hat man vor Jahren gefüllt Schläuche unter dem Sand am Strand gelegt. Diese Schläuche liegen heute bei Niedrigwasser frei sichtbar auf dem Strand und gleichen urgetümlichen Würmern oder grossen unappetittlichen Würsten.
Unser letzter Stop der Rundfahrt war am Leuchtturm und Flughafen. Der Leuchtturm ist eines der Wahrzeichen der Insel. Er wurde in den 1870er Jahren gebaut und hat eine Zuschauergalerie, die über eine steile Treppe mit 252 Stufen erreichbar ist (im Sommer geöffnet).
Auch hier haben wir noch einen kleinen Spaziergang in die Dünenlandschaft gemacht. Die Sonne stand schon verhältnismässig tief und die Sicht war bei den Lichtverhältnissen und bei Gegenlicht nicht mehr so gut.
Heute und morgen werde ich öfter an der Strandpromenade zu sehen sein und weitere Freunde von Bernd kennenlernen.
Ich freue mich sehr darauf.

Norderney, the Beauty Part 2 – Norderney, the Beauty Part 2
The time on the island goes by so quickly. Today is already Tuesday and Thursday I'm going home again. I'm very lucky with the weather. Blue skies and sunshine. The day before yesterday from noon and yesterday all day. My friend Bernd, who lives here on the island, is a terrific guide and conversationalist (at the daily ice cream at the Gran Cafe and at the dinner).
Norderney is not very popular with tourists at this time of the year. You can still find quiet places and the many, almost tame rabbits that populate the island. This is particularly noticeable in the middle of the city on a derelict site near the Kurhaus. Wild rabbit tracks can be seen all over the island.
We visited the port with the two sea rescue cruisers that are based there. Slightly away from the port, the area where the surf school can be found in summer. Now in winter the shallow water is a place of feathered denizens.
Yesterday we made an island tour that took us to the west of the island to the end of the upgraded route. From the parking lot it is about a 5 km walk to the end of the island. A beautiful dune landscape awaits the visitor here, with small tideways.
Since it was afternoon, the light conditions were particularly good. Bernd is a passionate photographer and has had plenty of opportunities to pursue his hobby.
From the national park on the west side we drove to the White Dune. There is or was the most beautiful beach on the island. Nature and climate change have ensured that large parts of the beach have been washed away and not much can be seen from the actual beach. In some places, the edge is almost 8 to 10 m high.
To secure and fortify the beach, filled hoses were laid under the sand on the beach years ago. Today, when the tide is low, these hoses lie freely visible on the beach and resemble primitive worms or large, unappetizing sausages.
Our final stop on the tour was at the lighthouse and airport. The lighthouse is one of the symbols of the island. It was built in the 1870s and has a viewing gallery accessed by a steep staircase of 252 steps (open in summer).
Here, too, we took a short walk in the dune landscape. The sun was already relatively low and visibility was no longer so good given the light conditions and the backlight.
Today and tomorrow I will be seen more often on the beach promenade and get to know more friends from Bernd.
I am very excited about it.
