Die Hansestadt Wismar - The hanseatic city of Wismar

Einer der Vorteile im schönen Reinbek zu wohnen, ist die Nähe zur Nord- und zur Ostsee und deren Kulturgütern. Hierzu gehört ohne Zweifel die Hansestadt Wismar.

Wir haben uns zu einem spontanen Besuch entschieden. Endlich mal wieder Sonnenschein. Da lohnt sich die kurze Fahrt.

Wir haben den Wagen unmittelbar an St. Marien geparkt. Das Schiff der Kirche wurde im 2. Weltkrieg durch Luftminen zerstört. Heute bewacht der Turm die noch sichtbaren Ruinenreste des Kirchenschiffs.

Der Marktplatz von Wismar ist das Zentrum der Hansestadt und einer der größten in Norddeutschland. Besonders auffallend ist neben dem Denkmal der Wismarer Wasserkunst, dem Rathaus und dem Bürgerhaus Alter Schwede die Tittentasterstrasse. Wie es zu diesem Namen gekommen ist, kann man hier  nachlesen.

Im Strassencafe des Steigenberger Hotels am Marktplatz haben wir einen Kaffee und Apfelstrudel genossen und dann noch einen kleinen Bummel durch die Altstadt gemacht.

Den alten Hafen haben wir uns für einen anderen Nachmittag aufgehoben.

Hanseatic City of WISMAR

One of the advantages when living in Reinbek is the proximity to the North Sea and Baltic Sea and their cultural goods. Without any doubt the city of Wismar, which is part of the Hanseatic League is one of them.

We decided to do a spontaneous visit. Finally we had sunshine and blue skies, hence best conditions for the short drive.

We parked our car in front of Saint Mary. The church suffered heavy damage in World War II. Today the 80m high tower watches over the remaining ruins of the church.

The market place of Wismar is the centre of the city and one of the largest market places in northern Germany. The square's focal point is the Wasserkunst, an elaborate wrought-iron fountain, the Town Hall, the ancient Gothic warehouse called Alter Schwede (The Old Swede) and the famous Tittentasterstrasse.

We enjoyed the busy activities of the market place from the street cafe of the Steigenberger Hotel with coffee and apple cake. We ended our visit with a walk through the old town of Wismar.
