Wenn man sich im Bundesstaat Victoria
aufhält, dann ist eine Fahrt mit „Puffing Billy“ ein Muss.
Die alte Eisenbahn in den Dandenong
Ranges ca. 40 km östlich von Melbourne wurde 1900 eröffnet und war
bis 1953 über eine Strecke von 29 km zwischen Upper Ferntree Gully
und Gembrook in Betrieb. Auf Grund privater Initiative wurde die
Strecke im Jahre 1998 nach Gembrook wieder in Betrieb genommen.
Puffing Billy ist heute Australiens beliebteste Dampfeisenbahn.

Die Fahrt ging von Emerald Lakeside
nach Gembrook durch Wälder mit Farnbäumen und Eukalyptus sowie über
Höhe mit einem schönen Ausblick auf die Ranges mit ihren roten
Tonböden.
Auf der Rückreise haben wir in Bunyip
an dem Pub/Hotel angehalten, in dem es ein WIFI gibt. Endlich konnten
die ersten Tage im Blog veröffentlicht werden.

Bei Ewalds Farm angekommen, wurden wir wieder von den Kängurus
begrüßt, die friedlich neben den Rindern weiden. Eine Trio von
Rosellas besuchte uns als wir den Abend auf der Veranda genossen
haben.
When visiting the state of
Victoria a ride with the historic steam train „Puffing Billy“ is
a MUST.
The old train in the
Dandenong Ranges (approx. 40Km east of Melbourne) was opened 1900 and
operated over 29km between Upper Ferntree Gully and Gembrook until
1953.
As a result of private
initiatives Puffing Billy became operational again to Gembrook on
1998.
Today Puffing Billy is one
of the finest preserved steam railways in the world.
The ride started in
Emerald Lakeside and took us to Gembrook and back enjoying woods with
Ferntrees and Gum Trees, great scenery with valley and an amazingly
red color of the earth.
On our way back home we
stopped at a Pub/Hotel in Bunyip where we could use the WIFI to
publish the first blog pages.

Back at Ernie's Farm the
Kangaroos were grazing with the black cattle and a trio of Rosellas
joined us when we were sitting on the veranda.
