Jagd auf das Internet – Hunting the Internet

Schon der 3. Tag ohne Internet. Schwager Ewald hat zwar ein theoretisches WIFI, das auch ab und an funktioniert, aber eben nur ab und an, nur nicht jetzt. Deshalb wird jetzt „trocken“ geblogt.

Heute morgen haben Schwager Ewald, Hund Penny und ich einen grossen Spaziergang über die JOLLEY ROAD gemacht. Beeindruckend für mich, durch dichten Eukalyptuswald zu gehen. Die Geräuschkulisse hier ist ganz anders als man das von zu Hause gewohnt ist. An den Creeks lautes Froschkonzert, dazwischen das Gekreische vom lachenden Hans, am Wegesrand der Kadaver eines Wombats. Roadkill nennt man das hier. Die tragische Konsequenz wenn der Mensch in den Lebensraum der einheimischen Tiere eindringt.

Der grosse Waldbrand 2011 hat Ernie's Farm nur knapp verfehlt

Von Ewalds Farm zu den nächsten Nachbarn ist es immer mindestens 15m Fussweg. Heute sind wir zu einer Nachbarin gelaufen, die etwa 3 km entfernt wohnt und die ihre Kühe auf Ewalds Weiden abgestellt hat, als Ewald vor 2 Jahren bei uns zu Besuch war. Sie hat eine Farm mit Kühen und Reit- und Dressurpferden. In diesen Tagen ist eine grosse Landwirtschaftsschau in Melbourne und ihr Mann ist dort als Richter bei Shows aktiv.

Am Nachmittag sind wir im Lady Lavender's Team Room (Bunyip) zum Lunchen gefahren und danach mit dem mobilen Modem hin zum Freeway in der Hoffnung, dass wir dort einen besseren Empfang für das 4G Netzwerk haben, leider sind wir nirgendwo über 2 bis 3 Balken hinausgekommen und weder das iPAD noch mein MacBook haben ein Netzwerk feststellen können. Aber ich gebe die Jags nicht auf. An einer Tankstelle hat man mir gesagt, dass in der Nähe ein kleines Hotel ist, in dessen Restaurant es ein freies WIFI gibt. Das werden wir am Wochenende versuchen. Eine weitere Alternative ist einer der Nachbarn von Ewald, ein in Australien bekannter Cartoonist, der dort via Internet verschiedene Zeitungen mit seinen politischen Cartoons versorgt.

Abends sind wir dann in der beginnenden Dämmerung unser Runde mit dem Auto gefahren und haben Wallabees gesehen und fotografiert. Auf der Wiese hinterm Haus waren wieder ein Rudel grosser roter Känguruhs. Mittlerweile ist man den Anblick bereits gewohnt.

Already the third day without Internet. Brother-in-law Ewald has a WIFI installed that only functions randomly depending upon weather conditions (hearsay information from Ewalds brother who installed the 4G based network). That's the reason why I'm doing the blog on a „dry“ base.

This morning Ewald, dog Penny and I made an extensive walk on JOLLEY ROAD. It was my first experience and i must say that I was really impressed to walk through the Gum Tree wood. The sounds around us were strange to me. We passed some creeks and listened to different frog orchestras that competed with the amazing screams of the Kookaburras. At the road side we found the cadaver of a dead Wombat. Roadkill its called here. The tragical consequence of human beings stepping into the environment of the local wild life..

The next neighbor from Ewald's farm is at least a 15 mins walk away. Today we visited one of the neighbors who lives about 3 km away from Ewald. When Ewald was in Germany visiting us 2 years ago, she put her cows on Ewald's meadows. She owns a farm with cows and racing and dressage horses. In these day Melbourne host a large agricultural exhibition and her spouse is a judge at the various horse shows that happen here.

We had lunch at Lady Lavender's Team Room (Bunyip) and afterwards we started our hunt for the Internet. We took the mobile 4G modem and drove to the Freeway hoping that we could get a good signal here. But we never managed to get more than 3 or 4 bars and neither the iPAD nor my Macbook could locate a WIFI network. But I don't give up the hunt! At a gas station I was told to visit a near by hotel that offers a free WIFI. We'll try this at the weekend. Another alternative is one of Ewald neighbors who is a famous cartoon artist in Australia. He sends his daily political cartoons to various major news papers and I bet he doesn't use pigeons to deliver the cartoons....!

At the beginning of dawn we drove around JOLLEY ROAD and again saw some Wallabees. On the meadow behind Ewald's farm again a herd of red Kangaroohs were happily grazing.

After 2 days I'm used to this view already.
