No river Elbe and big ships today- but a monster owl and a monster bear and a summer heath

The reader of this blog knows about my passion for the Elbe island Lühesand which I at least visit once per year. I love to be there, I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the view of the river Elbe and the passing ships.

Today was the Lühesand day, at least I thought it was. The weather forecast was good and my friend Frank was at my place on time (after a 20km bicycle ride) and we started our 50 km journey to Lühesand.

However we didn't get far because we were stuck in a traffic jam on A1 starting at exit Hamburg Moorfleet and we knew that we couldn't make it to the little ferry to Lühesand which left at 2 pm.

So we had to devise a new plan: RETHINK, LOOK FOR OTHER ALTERNATIVES

With a spontaneous blink of his eye Frank suggested the Fischbeker Heide in the western part of Hamburg-Harburg. Because I have never been there my curiosity was immediately aroused.

On the way Frank suggested a little diversion to meet the sculptor Erich Gerer who is known for his two sculptures: the largest wooden owl and bear in the world. Erich was awarded with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for these two sculptures.

Meeting Erich Gerer war very impressive. With is 73 years he is still a living hippie relict, an extremely friendly guy and a good lover of Blues.

We agreed to give a concert with my OLD FRIENDS in December at his workshop and have some fun with music from JJ CALE.!

After we had lunch at the Grando Sukredo opposite to Erich's place we drove to the Fischbeker Heide and had a little walk in this beautiful summer heath.

Down Under – Letzter Tag - Montville (Sunshine Coast) – Montag, 26.

Germany, here we come.

Zum Abschluss noch etwas besinnliches. Das wunderschöne Gedicht von Dorothea Mackellar:

My Country (Strophe 2)
…..
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!
…….

Down Under – Montville Monday, March 26, 2018

The air is sticky and the sun swaps places with rain. Luggage has been packed and the suitcases are still open on our bed. Gila and I are killing time. Our plane departs 10 to 11 pm and we both are looking forward to the 14 hour flight to Dubai where we have a 2 hours stop before we take another 6 hour flight to Hamburg.

Germany here we come!

Here's something for contemplative moments. A poem from Dorothea Mackellar:

My Country, verse 2

…..
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

Down Under – Montville (Sunshine Coast) – Sonntag, 25. März 2018

Montville, Queensland (QLD) Zeit: 21:00, Wetter: 23 degrees Centigrade, 77 % Humidity

Down Under – Montville – Sunday, March 25, 2018

Montville, Queensland (QLD) Time: 09:00 pm, Weather: 23 degrees Centigrade, 77 % Humidity

After breakfast I walked downhill to the property of Steward and Mag. The sun was shining nicely. Steward has a pond on his 32,000 sqm large property which I wanted to see and take photos. On my way down a Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo flew above me and I had the luck to take a photo of him.

Around midday we were invited by the other neighbors. Max and Elli life approx. 1km down of the Palmwoods-Montville Road or 90m below the house of Henry and Jeanette. Their house is above the road and offers a great view over the Hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. Both are passionate garden friends and they walked us through the wonderful sloping garden above the road and below their house where they have all kinds of tropical flowers and multiple kinds of Ginger. Elli explained all of this but to be honest I can't remember all of it :-)

Next was the walk through the jungle above the house. All trees and plants have been planted by Max and Elli when they moved in the house in 2005. The highlight was the bamboo wood with various bamboo types.

The entire property (20,000 sqm) is infused with a watering system. Great job done and my respect.

At around 3 pm we drove to the banks of the Maroochydore river where I had booked a round trip with a little Wilga 80 sea plane.

The weather was great and the flight was spectacular. The pictures speak for themselfes!

We had seafood for dinner in Mooloolaba close to the ocean and yacht harbor.

Tomorrow is our last day. The 8 weeks are finally over. We have to pack luggage and take the plane late at night from Brisbane to Dubai.
