Rain – Sun – Humidity

Heute morgen hat Cairns seine tropische Seite gezeigt. Es regnete in Strömen bei 27 Grad. Wir hatten heute eigentlich vor, eine Schifffahrt nach Trinity Inlet zu machen, und uns von den Strapazen des gestrigen Tages etwas auszuruhen. Auf Grund des Wetters haben wir dies auf Mittwoch verschoben und Gila hatte endlich Zeit, einige Karten zu schreiben. Gegen Mittag kam die Sonne wieder durch und es ging in Richtung 31 Grad. Durch den Regen war die Luftfeuchtigkeit sehr hoch, aber nicht unangenehm. Im November und Dezember sind es hier 40 Grad und mehr und mehr als 95% Feuchtigkeit. Trotzdem ist dann hier Hochsaison bis kurz nach Weihnachten. Dann fängt die Regenzeit an. Diese dauert bis Ostern und touristisch soll hier alles dann tot sein. Aber der Regenwald wird sich freuen.

Ich bin heute nachmittag über die Spence Street in das Pullman Hotel Casino gegangen, auf dessen Dach eine grosse Glaskuppel ist. In dieser Glaskuppel ist der Cairns Wildlife Dome. Wir haben dort auch das Koala Bild machen lassen. Für die 40 Dollar Eintritt bin ich ca. 1 Stunden durch den Dschungel im Dome gelaufen, habe mein Hemd durchgeschwitzt aber tolle Bilder von der australischen Vogelwelt gemacht. Ihr werde ich gegen Ende der Reise eine eigene Blog Seite widmen. Für die 40 Dollar gab es auch das obligatorische Foto. Da der kleine Koala schon mit uns verewigt wurde, habe ich das kleine Süsswasserkrokodil genommen. Wenn schon bezahlt, dann auch mitnehmen.

Abends im Hotel - zurück im Chaos - hat Gila noch etwas gebügelt. Wie sie sagte: "Das Chaos gerade gebügelt."

Morgen geht es den ganzen Tag auf ein Platoon im Great Barrier Reef.

This morning Cairns showed its tropical side. It was raining cats and dogs but still 26 degrees Centigrade. Our plan for today was a boat trip to Trinity Inlet but we decided against it and have postponed it to Wednesday. Around noon the sun was back and the temperature went up to 31 degress with a high humidity caused by the rain. But it wasn't uncomfortable. Gila used the time to write some postcards. During the months of November and December the temperature goes up to over 40 degrees Centigrade with humidity over 95%. Nevertheless this is high season here. Until short after Christmas. The starts the rain period which lasts until eastern. The Cairns region goes to sleep during this time, thats what we've been told. The only beneficiary of the rain is the rainforest.

This afternoon I crossed Spence St. and went into the Pullman Hotel Casino which has a large glass dome on the roof hosting the Cairns Wildlife Dome. We have already been there to take the Koala picture but were not inside the dome. I paid the 40 Australian Dollars admission fee and walked around the dome for about one hour. It was terribly hot in here but I could shoot great photos from the Australian Birdlife. I will post a page about these beautiful birds at the end of our journey. The 40 Dollars included the obligatory photo. Because we already have a Koala photo I decided to have a photo with a small freshwater croc. The money had been spent, why shouldn't I take the photo?

This evening at the hotel - back to chaos - Gila did some ironing and said: "At least I have ironed out the chaos".

Tomorrow we make a full day trip toa platoon in the Great Barrier Reef!
