Goulburn's Big Morino – Yass's solitude railway station

Heute ist Bye Bye Day in Canberra und das Wetter ist wieder besser geworden. Wolken am blauen Himmel und frischer Wind bei 18 Grad. Wir haben den Vorschlag von Horst gerne angenommen, nach Goulburn in New South Wales zu fahren. Goulburn liegt auf der Strecke von Canberra nach Sidney etwa 90 km von Canberra entfernt. Goulburn ist die erste Stadt, die im Binnenland 1833 gegründet wurde. Golbourn liegt an der Main Southern Line Eisenbahnstrecke und ist ein beliebter Haltepunkt für Reisende, die über den Hume Highway von Melbourne nach Sidney fahren.

Goulburn ist auch die Stadt mit dem größten Schaf aus Beton (Übrigens ein Hammel), dem Big Morino! Hier habe ich endlich meinen Aussie Hut gefunden!

Wir sind nicht direkt zurück nach Canberra gefahren sondern haben einen Umweg nach Yass gemacht.

Yass liegt im Südosten von New South Wales. Der von Melbourne (600km) kommende Hume Highway trifft hier mit dem Barton Highway zusammen, der direkt zur Hauptstadt Canberra führt. Nach Sydney sind es noch ca. 300 Kilometer. Yass ist eine Stadt mit einer Strasse und 5.500 Einwohner. Etwa 3 km von der Stadt entfernt liegt der Bahnhof Yass Junction – direkt am Ende der Welt. Kaum vorstellbar, dass die Bahnlinie, die beiden größten Städte Australiens miteinander verbindet und lediglich 2 mal in 24 Stunden ein Zug nach Melbourne und 2 mal nach Sydney hält. Der Stationmaster hat sicherlich wenig Stress hier.

Wo ich gerade bei dem Thema bin, auch Canberra hat einen Bahnhof, der die Hauptstadt direkt mit Sydney verbindet. 3 mal am Tag geht ein Zug dorthin. Der Bahnhof ist kleiner als unsere S-Bahn Station in Reinbek, allerdings mit Teppichboden ausgelegt!!!!!!

Today is Bye Bye Day in Canberra and the weather has become more friendly. Clods at a blue sky and a fresh wind with 18 degrees Centigrade. Horst recommended to visit Goulburn in New South Wales. Goulburn is on route from Canberra to Sydney approx. 90 km away. It is the first Australian inland city and was founded 1833. Golbourn is a railhead on the Main Southern Line and a favorite stop for travelers driving the Hume Highway from Melbourne to Sydney.

Goulburn also is the city with the largest concrete sheep, the Big Merino. Here's the place where I finally found my real Australian hat!

We didn't drive straight back to Canberra but made a detour to Yass.

Yass is located in the south east of New South Wales. The Hume Highway coming from Melbourne (600km) meets the Barton Highway to the Australian Capital Canberra. To Sydney is about another 300 km. Yass is a city with only ONE road and a population of 5.500. 3 km away from the city is the train station YASS JUNCTION, right at the end of the world. Its difficult to understand that a railway line connecting two of the largest Australian cities has a station where only 2 trains a day stop to Melbourne and 2 trains stop on their way to Sydney. The stationmaster certainly doesn't have a lot of stress here.

Talking about train stations. The capital Canberra also has a train station that connects Canberra with Sydney. 3 trains leave to Sydney and arrive from Sydney a day. The train station of the Australian Capital City is smaller than our local train station in Reinbek, however it has a nice carpet on the ground!!!!
