Heute war Ruhetag bei 31 Grad. Gegen 10 Uhr kam der Sohn von Henry und Jeanette mit seiner Frau und dem 3 Monate alten Sohn. Jeanette hatte den Weber Grill angeschmissen und der Brunch bestand aus Würstchen, Speck, Zwiebeln, Eiern, Tomaten, Brot und weiteren Leckereien. Nachmittags als die grösste Hitze vorbei war, waren wir wieder draussen. Die Vögel waren wieder da und abends haben die Zikaden ihr Konzert gegeben.

Gila's reminiscence of a long time ago

Today we had a rest and it was 31 degrees Centigrade. Around 10 pm the son of Jeanette and Henry his wife and his 3 month old son came to visit. Jeanette had prepared the Weber and we had brunch with saussages, bacon, onions, tomatoes, eggs, bread and other tasty additions.

Late afternoon when the biggest heat was gone we enjoyed the patio, the great view, the birds and later the Cicada concert.

Tomorrow the adventure will continue!

Dies ist das Motto des Sunshine Staates Queensland. Und genauso fühlen wir uns und erleben es hier. Pünktlich um 5 Uhr !!!! heute morgen waren wir auf und haben den Sonnenaufgang von der Terrasse aus erlebt. Kaum war dies erledigt, waren die 6 Kookaburras wieder hier und ich durfte sie wieder mit speziellem Futter füttern. Henry und Ewald geniessen die Zeit auf der Terrasse, wir klönen und lassen es uns gutgehen, bis die Ladies auch aufstehen und wir frühstücken.

Heute ging es von Montville über den Blackall Range Drive zu den Glass House Mountains, die wir vom Lookout am Mary Cairncross Reserve sehen konnten.

Am Little Yabba Creek machten wir einen Stopp und sind den Fig Tree Walk gegangen, an riesigen Feigenbäumen vorbei.

Mapleton Falls National war unsere letzte Station mit einem tollen Ausblick aus ca. 300m Höhe auf das unten liegende Tal. Der Wasserfall allerdings führte kaum Wasser. Es ist Frühling hier in Queensland und die Regenzeit ist im Dezember bis März, dann ist der Wasserfall ein richtiger Wasserfall!

Jetzt sitzen wir auf der Terrasse, ich schreibe das Blog, die kleinen Papageien sind da und ein Kookaburra sitzt mit uns am Tisch auf der Lehne des Stuhls.

What a character

Relax – we're in Queensland.

It is the motto of the Sunshine State Queensland. That is how we feel here. At 5 am I got up and we all watched the beautiful sunrise from the patio. As soon as this was done the Kookaburras came and I could feed them with special food. Ernie, Henry and me sat on the patio and talked until the ladies got up and we had breakfast.

Today we toured the Blackall Range Drive to the Glass House Mountains which we could see from the Mary Cairncross Reserve Lookout.

We stopped at the Little Yabba Creek and walked the Fig Tree walk. Here we could see huge Fig trees, a lovely place in a shady wood.

Mapleton Falls National was our last stop for today and we had a breathtaking view from 300m above. The fall however did not have water. It is Spring in Queensland and the rain season start end of December. The the waterfall becomes a real waterfall!

Now we're back at the patio and I write my blog. The Lorikeets, the Rosellas and the Kookaburras are with us again and one of these nice characters is sitting at our table.

Um 6 Uhr fing der Tag heute an. Pünktlich um diese Zeit warten mehrere Kookaburras auf der Terrasse, um von Henry mit Pet Minze gefüttert zu werden. Die interessanten Vögel sind dann ganz zutraulich und sitzen aufgereiht am Tisch. Heute hatte ich das Vergnügen! Ein einmaliges Erlegnis. Die Vögel liessen sich sogar streicheln, wenn man ihnen etwas Minze gab. Einer war dabei, der ganz frech und vorlaut seinen Leckerbissen verlangte und ihn gierig vom Messer abriss und sofort wegflog.

Nach der Woche in Cairns war grosse Wäsche angesagt. Henry hat uns Videos gezeigt von der vielfältigen Vogelwelt, die hier zu Hause ist.

LAUNDRY

Wir sind nachmittags zum Einkaufen in die Sunshine Plaza nach Maroochydore gefahren mit Chinese Lunch und The Coffee Club (Gila hats mal wieder genossen) und von dort an den Strand von Mooloolaba.

Abends war ein ziemlich lautes Zikadenkonzert im Garten. Henry hat eine gefangen und sie hat im Wohnzimmer ihren Krachgesang fortgesetzt.

The day started at 6 am. Several Kookaburras were waiting at the patio to be fed by Henry with Pet Minze. These interesting birds are very trusting and sit on the table in a row. Today it was my part to feed them. What an amazing experience! I even could pet them. But only after giving them some Minze. One bird was a nasty one. I requested the goody and picked it from the knife and flew away.

After the week at Cairns laundry was the motto of the day. Henry showed us some videos of the birds that show up on his property.

The afternoon we did some shopping at the Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, had Chinese Lunch and some coffee, chocolate at The Coffee Club (Gila enjoyed it). Then we drove to the beach of Mooloolaba.

Back home we had a very loud concert from cicadas. Henry caught one and it continue its rumpus noise in the living room.

Montville – Queensland -Birdland

Pünktlich um 10 Uhr hob die Virgin Australia VA 776 nach Brisbane ab. Nach 2 Stunden Flug wurden wir am Flughafen von Ewald, Henry und Jeanette abgeholt und wir sind nach Montville an der Sunshine Coast gefahren, wo wir die nächsten 12 Tage bei Henry und Jeanette sein werden.

Henry und Jeanette haben ihr Haus auf einem Grundstück mit einem traumhaften Blick auf den in 15 km entfernten Pazifik. Auf dem Grundstück stehen Palmen, ein Jacaranda und viele andere – für uns – fremde Pflanzen. Leider ist die Zeit der Blüte bereits seit ein paar Wochen vorbei. Trotzdem ist die Farbenpracht beeindruckend.

Das Highlight war allerdings, als gegen 16 Uhr die Vogelwelt zu Besuch kam. Zuerst waren 2 Kookaburras da, bei uns als Lachender Hans bekannt. Sie waren so zutraulich, dass Henry sie mit der Hand füttern kann. Jeden Morgen gegen 6 Uhr kommen immer mehrere der Vögel auf die Terrasse zur Begrüßung. Neben den Kookaburras waren ein Butcher Bird, Rainbow Lorikeet, Pale Headed Lorikeet, Magpie und ein Coorawong da. Im Nu waren über 100 Bilder verschossen. Daraus eine Auswahl zu treffen ist schwer.... verdammt schwer!

On the nose at 10 am flight VA 776 of Virgin Australia took off for Brisbane. After a 2 hour flight Ernie, Henry and Jeanette – our hosts for the next 12 days – picked us up and we drove to Montville at the Sunshine Coast.

Henry and Jeanette's property is on a hill with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean which is only 15 km away. Palm trees, a Jacaranda and many more strange plants and trees are on the property. Strange – for our German eyes. Unfortunately the spring bloom already was a few weeks ago. Nevertheless the colors are of the plants are impressive.

The highlight however was the daily visit of the local wildlife birds. They show up every early morning and afternoon around 4pm. The first birds to visit were 2 Kookaburras. Henry could feed them with bread. They were so trustingly. A Butcher Bird, some Rainbow Lorikeet, Pale Headed Lorikeet, a couple of Magpies and a Coorawong joined the visiting flock. It only took a few minutes and more than 100 photos were shot. To find a selection for this blog ….. bloody difficult!
